Care Instructions
Cleaning
Diamonds attract grease, and a filmed-over stone looks dull long before it looks dirty. Once a fortnight:
- Warm water with a drop of plain washing-up liquid
- Soak for ten minutes
- Brush gently with a soft toothbrush, especially underneath the stone where the light enters
- Rinse and pat dry with a lint-free cloth
Avoid: bleach, chlorine, acetone, toothpaste, and ultrasonic cleaners on anything with a glued or tension setting.
Sterling silver
Silver darkens through contact with air and skin. It is normal, it is reversible, and it is not a defect. A soft silver polishing cloth takes it off in a minute. Storing pieces in a closed box or pouch slows it right down.
Vermeil
Vermeil is gold over sterling, so treat the surface gently — no polishing cloths, no abrasives. Warm soapy water and a soft cloth only. Put it on last and take it off first: perfume, hairspray and lotion are what wear gold layers down.
Storage
Separately. Diamonds scratch everything else in the box, including other diamonds. Individual pouches or a lined box with compartments. Keep it dry.
When to take it off
- Gym, weights, anything with a grip
- Swimming pools and hot tubs — chlorine attacks the alloys in silver
- Gardening, DIY, cleaning with harsh chemicals
- Sleeping, for anything with prongs
Check the setting
Hold the piece near your ear and tap it gently. A rattle means a stone has loosened — stop wearing it and email us. Prongs wear over years; catching it early is the difference between a re-tip and a lost stone.
